Senwes and Agri SA established a disaster fund to assist distressed farmers.
Omri van Zyl, Agri SA’s executive director, encouraged the public to support their initiative. R86 750 in cash donations have been received, as well as 44 000kg feed.
The current drought, which is accompanied by high temperatures, is the worst natural disaster in 20 years. The drought will have a serious impact on the financial status of farmers, while rural communities are at serious risk of suffering food shortages.
For more information on the fund, visit www.droogterampfonds.co.za. Donations can be made via EFT, credit card, cheque debit cards, SnapScan or premium tariff SMS at R30 per SMS.
Agri SA’s former executive director, Hans van der Merwe, will assist with the management of the fund.
