Retail chain, Pick n Pay has announced that they have signed up to purchase R45m, or 4,500 tonnes of wheat products from Agri-business, GWK Farm Foods’, newest wheat flour mill, pasta and biscuit factory. The new facility, located in Modderrivier (near Kimberley), is the first producer of food-related fast-moving consumer goods in the Northern Cape.
GWK Farm Foods’ turnover was R8bn last year, making R164m in profits, part of which it redeems to shareholders over a period of years. The business produces meats, pecan nuts, food oils, livestock feed, wine, and potatoes. Products made at the new factory include pasta (spaghetti, penne, macaroni), white and brown bread, and cake flours. The facility produces about 30 tonnes of biscuits a day and employs about 2,000 people across offices in South Africa.
