Africa must call for global change at COP21, the vital climate change conference that will be hosted in Paris this December.
Climate change is the single biggest threat to food security in Africa, especially to pastoral and indigenous communities reliant on smallholder producers. Unreliable rainfall, rising temperatures and extreme weather events impairs their capacity to provide for their communities.
To demonstrate African support to prioritise climate change, the Africa Peoples’ Petition is aiming to collect one million signatures across the continent ahead of COP21. The continent needs visionary leaders at the Paris negotiations who will call for a global shift to renewable energy use and claim the climate financing and technology that Africa needs.
