KLK has a feedlot that feeds animals on a contract basis and gets them market ready. The feedlot has a standing capacity of 4 500 animals and is located outside Upington.
Producers’ animals are admitted to the feedlot, weighed and dosed. Animals are weighed every Thursday and producers receive reports on how animals grow and perform in the lots. Animals are normally fed for approximately 42 days, but it remains the decision of the producer as to when the animals must be slaughtered. Producers are paid a premium on slaughter. After slaughter the standing and feeding costs are recovered before the producer is paid for the slaughter.
