The recent Agrimark Trends (AMT) annual agricultural outlook conference in Pretoria focused on the following trends: weather, land reform, technology, GM seeds and farming opportunities in Africa.
Speakers included the managing director of John Deere in sub-Saharan Africa, Jason Brantley, and economist Dr Roelof Botha, as well as environmentalist Dr Anthony Turton.
Jason Brantley argued that technology is vital to boosting a farming operation’s profitability. “If you have a profit margin of 2% and the use of technology helps you increase it to 4% then you have doubled your profits,” says Brantley.
